With air conditioners running full blast in the hot summer season, you can earn a credit on your energy bill when you voluntarily use less energy during “Peak Time Savings” Hours.
What is Peak Time Savings?
Peak Time Savings (PTS) is a program from ComEd that runs June 1 to September 30. Peak time is when most air conditioners are on, stores are open, and factories are running, which creates a peak in energy demand. To offset the peak, ComEd typically announces three to five PTS events each summer when residents who reduce their energy use for a couple hours between 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. are rewarded with credits on their energy bill. That’s right, you’ll be paid to conserve energy!
When you enroll in the free PTS program, you’ll get a notification about the events via phone call, text and/or email. ComEd also shares the announcement for PTS events on its Facebook and Twitter.
How much will I save?
For every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity you save, you will earn a credit of $1 on your bill. ComEd estimates participants will receive a $1 to $12 credit on their bill per PTS event. There is no penalty if you don’t participate!
